Rufus T. Gillam, a very special person, was born on May 7, 1920 in Montrose (Mich.), the son of Orie and Pearl (McCombs) Gillam. He was one of seven children. His family farmed in Montrose, and near Clio (Mich.). Because his family moved often, Rufus attended various schools including Naismith, Munsell, Montrose High School, and Flushing High School, from which he graduated in 1939. Maybee was a history professor at CMU. The Clarke Historical Library has several of his publications and his papers. The Advisory Committee developed plans for major events, publications, re-dedications of campus buildings, presentations, and a historical marker for CMU's 75th Anniversary.
